Cyberspace Association of United States Submariners
The CAUSS Website was established to perpetuate the memory of shipmates who gave their lives while serving in U.S. Naval Submarines. The site provides information relating to the U.S. Naval Submarine Force; it's past, present and future. It also provides a means by which Submariners can maintain contact with former shipmates. The foundation sponsors and provides support for children living with Hyprohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia(HED). This is an outstanding Website in both it's content and goals.

The Goat Locker
Greg is another retired Submariner, a good friend and a member of our CPO Chain Locker. His website is one of the most comprehensive and entertaining Navy/CPO/Submarine related sites to be found. There is always something new to see at Master Chief Peterman's hangout. Don't forget to visit the rest of Greg's fine pages.

International Collectibles, Belts and Militaria
The ICBM Web site is a commercial offering, but Don Palen has some really great submarine collectibles available and besides, this is an interesting and amusing page. Enjoyed myself here and might even buy something. I noticed Don is also into Web Chat, (LOL) Don!!!

Naval Submarine League
The League is an organization for submarine enthusiasts in every walk of life. The group provides a forum by which members can become acquainted with the goals and issues confronting the Submarine Force. All members receive the quarterly SUBMARINE REVIEW. As an avid philatelist (stamp collector), I was particularly interested in the leagues Commemorative Stamp Campaign. It's about time the Postal Service commemorated something else beside Bugs and Daffy!!!

Neil Steven's Deep Domain
I have been missing out on a top-notch submarine history related site. I just found Neil's site through a link on Martin Riley's page. I can say without any hesitation that Deep Domain is going to be one of my favorite places to visit from now on! Great graphics and articles, the site also contains some good information on Submarine Simulation games. Bravo Zulu, Neil.

USS Pampanito (SS-383)
A World War II Fleet submarine, Pampanito made six patrols during World War II, sank six Japanese ships, and damaged four others. The Pampanito is now a museum that is open for visitors daily at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. Interesting and Entertaining, this impressive Web site is a must see.

Ron Martini's Navy Submarine Base
Ron has done a "Blockbuster" job on his pages. (Two thumbs Up) Chock full of submarine information and great graphics. Don't miss the Thresher/Scorpion pages. Includes a BBS. I've been a fan of Ron's pages since I first came across them, almost two years ago. Ron's site also includes a huge Submarine Directory listing containing over a thousand links to submarines of ALL nations and ALL periods of history.

SEALION - Sturgeon's Submarine Journal
This is a truly great read. Tons of information and some great graphics and links. Rich Brown has done a great job of presenting timely articles, features and links that are of interest to us all, not just submariners. You can also obtain scale models of many fine boats of the Silent Service.

Seawolf - The 21st Century Now
Seawolf displaces 9,137 tones submerged and has eight torpedo tubes. It can dive deeper and travel faster than any other submarine afloat. This Web page is actually an article from ALL Hands magazine. There are some great pictures of the SSN 21 and the article is well written. This one is for those who would like to know more about State of the Art submarines.

Sub Base Houston Texas
One of the newest additions to the CPO Web Ring Sub Base has some very innovative features, (If you like gadgets - y'all gotta love this site) and contains a comprehensive listing of CPO shipmates. It's a little complex to navigate for "Sand Crabs" and some pages take a while to load but it's worth the wait. Check out the Liberty Call Page.

Submarines - A Taste of the Silent Service
Another fine CPO ring page from MMC(SS) Riley. Some great pics of the "Old Boats" here and some interesting personal ones as well. A nicely done tribute to the Silent Service.

Trident Submarine Characteristics -Kings Bay GA
What submarine Web site featured list would be complete without at least one official Navy site. This one is the Best of the Best. Very educational with good background information on the boats and their crews. The site contains some great graphics and links to other official Navy sites.

S-51 Banner Logo
Some great information and resources about the sinking and salvage of the submarine S-51, which was involved in a collision with the steamer City of Rome in 1924 are to be found at Tara Guthrie's outstanding Web Site. The pages are dedicated to the memory of her grandfather, a radioman aboard the S-51.

uboat.net
What can I say about this premier site. If you're interested in history and in particular, Naval history, this is the place to go. Everything and anything you've ever wanted to know about uboats can be found here. Guðmundur Helgason has created a wonderful walk through the past. I give this site four stars, it's one of my favorites.

Annie and Charlie's Site
One of the Charter members of the CPO ring Charlie and Annie, have created a great web site. From German Shepherd dogs, to Naval Aviation and of course some CPO material, this site has a little something for everyone.

Sub Base Houston Texas
One of the newest additions to the CPO Web Ring Sub Base has some very innovative features and contains a comprehensive listing of CPO shipmates. It's a little complex to navigate for "Sand Crabs" and some pages take a while to load but it's worth the wait. Check out the Liberty Call Page.

Chief Cook's Home Port
Another of the orignal Ring members, Nanny is a favorite of mine. Her pages are full of fifties nostalgia and good feelings. Nanny is a full time Deputy Sheriff, Granny, and Chief Petty Officer, I don't know how she does it. If you don't enjoy Net Nanny's pages your related to the Grinch.

Fun In Japan
Now here's a different sort of page for a Navy Chief! Beautifully done pages, informative and entertaining with some great background music. Gary's site is a must see, especially if your getting ready to move or deploy to Japan.

The Battle Off Samar
In the words of the site's author: "The battle off Samar was a World War II Naval action which occurred during the morning of Wednesday, October 25, 1944. It was one of four naval engagements the U.S. Navy fought against the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Battle of Leyte Gulf." An outstanding naval history site. Information and photo's galore, Bravo Zulu Chief.

NAVetsUSA
The newest member of the CPO Anchor Chain, NAVetsUSA is open to all Sea Service members. It's goals are to develop and promote comradship among it's members and to revitalize civic interest in the United States Navy and it's history. The site is very well done, both entertaining and informative. Everything from Naval History and news to shipmates and reunions. Free homepages and buisness cards available to members.

The BBQ'ING Home Page
If you enjoy good cooking and would like to add a few recipes to your cookbook, this is the place to go. In addition to the many fine recipes and helpful barbecuing tips, Kevin's site is entertaining and a graphical delight. You'll really enjoy this one.

Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd.
Daewoo Shipbuilding has its shipyard at Okpo Bay on Koje Island off the southeastern coast of the Korean Peninsula. The firm builds commercial and Naval vessels and offshore drilling rigs. A fairly sophisticated frames site employing some JAVA scripts. Contains specifications and graphics of ships and other products.

Electric Boat Corporation
The nation's leading designer and builders of naval nuclear-powered submarines, General Dynamics Electric Boat Division, has created a top notch site. Informative and entertaining, the site includes a large archive of submarine photographs.

Hitachi Zosen Corporation - Shipbuilding, Repairs, and Conversions
This Web page from a Japanese firm located in Osaka includes graphics of ships and a nice informational page on the Osaka resort area of Tempozan

Mini Marine International
A different type of shipbuilding site for Naval model ship builders. Jt Mulder of the Netherlands has put together a very entertaining and well designed site with excellent graphics and photos. The pages are informative and well organized.

NAVAL GIJÓN SA
NAVAL GIJON, S.A. is a Spanish shipyard and one of the better designed shipbuilding pages. You can even take a virtual walk around it.

Newport News Shipbuilding
Newport News Shipbuilding is America's largest privately-owned shipyard and Virginia's largest employer. The site contains resource information and graphics on all phases of shipbuilding from Carriers to Submarines.

United States Naval & Shipbuilding Museum
While not an actual shipbuilding page, this site contains excellent resources on Naval ships, worldwide. The Web site includes the world's only preserved heavy cruiser,
USS Salem (CA 139) and an on-line version of the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships.

Battleships Carriers and All Other Warships
A first rate resource for photographs and ship histories of warships, aircraft, and weapons systems. Includes photos of US, Russian, British, German, Japanese, and South American vessels.

Destroyers, Destroyer Escorts And Frigates - The United States Naval Register
Paul Yarnall has created the best resource I have found to date for finding information on decommissioned and active Naval Destroyer type ships. The site includes over 3,000 Hull Numbers. The only Web site where I was able to find data on USS Colahan, while researching information for a shipmate.

Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships On-line
DANF On-line contains files transcribed from the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, the US Navy's multi-volume encyclopedia of ship histories. While not 100% complete, it does contain a comprehensive selection of US Naval vessels.

Fun In Japan
At first glance this title might seem a little out of place nestled amongst resource sites,. It is, however, an excellent guide to the customs, places to see, and resources available for the sailor who is deploying to Japan. Gary's pages are informational and entertaining.

The Mining Company - US Military - Department of the Navy
F.O. White, the Military Guide at the Mining Company provides one of the best and easiest to use military resource sites on the Web. Resources include content descriptions and are arranged categorically and alphabetically. An excellent starting point for locating Naval resources.

Naval Historical Center - Publications
The Naval Historical Center includes information on Naval history, traditions, trivia, customs and publications. The Center is the publisher of the massive 8 volume Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships.

Naval Institute
The Naval Institute is dedicated to the advancement of professional, literary, and scientific knowledge of sea power, and the Naval and Maritime services. The institute publishes Proceedings magazine (Membership required), which provides an open forum for all the armed services and interested civilians. The site includes a comprehensive listing of books and Navy related photographs for sale.

US Navy Patrol Squadrons
Here is one for the "Brown Shoe" Navy. Do they still call it that? "ASW" Patrol Squadrons "Old" Navy Aircraft (P2 Neptunes, P3 Orions, PBY's, Ventura's), Shipmates, History of VP Squadrons "Past and Present," ARMY P2 Squadrons, Coast Guard, Allied Squadrons, Reunions, and Squadron Logo's. It's all here.

Schooner Man - Schooners and Tall Ships
The Web resource for lovers of all tall ships! Schooner Man contains photographs and histories of schooners, brigs, brigantines, barks and fully rigged tall ships and biographies of the men who sailed them. If you enjoy the history of the sea this awesome web site is for you.

The United States Navy - Official Web Site
This is the index page of the United States Navy's Official Web site. It contains links to every Navy command on-line and to articles and news disseminated from official Naval sources.



Featured November 97
Forest Ecosystem Dynamics
The FED Project links and uses models of forest dynamics, soil processes, and canopy energetics to understand how ecosystem response to change affects patterns and processes in northern and boreal forests and to assess the implications for global change. I didn't know NASA was into trees!

Hubble Space Telescope Public Pictures
Super Graphics from the Space Telescope Science Institute. All images are digital versions of pictures also distributed publicly as press releases and can be copied freely for non-commercial use.

Museum of Science and Industry - U505 Exhibit
The U-505 is a German World War II Type-IXc Unterseeboot (submarine) that was captured in battle on the high seas by boarding parties from the USS Guadalcanal. While not a Navy or Military page, it is one of my favorites. The museum also contains a coal mine exhibit and much more.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration Gallery
Apollo 11 - Travel back 25 years through time, view a short movie, look at old images, or listen to audio clips. Also included in this exhibit are the press releases, press kits, and other materials that made history. The site also contains collections of Nasa photo archives, video archives, and audio archives. Fantastic site - You will need Netscape or Microsoft 3.0 to view as site as intended.

The Northern Right Whale Monitoring Project
The northern right whale is one of the most critically endangered marine mammals with estimates of approximately 300 right whales remaining in the North Atlantic. A great informational resource with super graphics from the Office of Naval Research.

Search for Origins
Are we alone in the Universe? How did we get here? What is the origin of the Universe? These and many other questions are discused at Origins, another great site from NASA. As with most Nasa sites you will need a JAVA enabled browser to fully enjoy the content.

Getting Started With Home Schooling
Many of the duty stations and locations to which we are assigned provide less than adequate schooling and educational opportunities for our children. One solution for this problem is "Home Schooling." The Home Schooling Zone provides an excellent starting place for information and resources in this area.

Kathie's Fresh Deployment Survival Guide
Kathie offers sage advice for Navy wives facing deployment separation. A "Great Resource" for wives who are new to the service and some sound advice for "Old Salts" as well. Visit Kathie's Home Page also for recipes and other useful items "Bravo Zulu" Shipmate.

The National Military Family Association
A first rate page for military families containing resources and information on benefits, rights, services, and issues that affect your lives. NMFA was organized in 1969 and was instrumental in launching the Survivor Benefit Plan.

Secure Retirement
An important part of the transition, from military to civilian life, is insuring your family has adequate protection against times of need. Is your financial house in order? A great resource from Nations Bank, covers everything you would want to know concerning IRAs.

When Duty No Longer Calls
Part two of a story from the Washington Post. Retirement from the military brings job changes and life changes. Part 1: Life at Camp Washington Can Seem a Little Off-Base How military life is decidedly different in the Washington area. A very interesting read!

USS Hopper, the world's most advanced destroyer, was commissioned in San Francisco on September 6, 1997. A "well done" for this new ship's homepage, informative and graphically entertaining.

Navy Christens Attack Submarine Conneticut SSN 22 in Groton, Conneticut
The US Navy christened the new Attack Submarine, USS Conneticut on September 1, 2025 during ceremonies held at Electric Boat in Groton, Conn.

Up to 99,000 Troops Exposed at Khamisiyah
The Pentagon confirmed July 24 that five times more U.S. troops than previously believed -- a total of about 99,000 -- may have been exposed to low levels of toxic nerve gases. Navy Timesonline.

November 97 - A Sailor's Letter - Amoy, China 1939 For this weeks feature article, I offer you something a little different. After my father, QMC USN Ret. Wendell Tucker, passed away, I came across an interesting letter from a buddy of his. The letter was addressed from Kulang Island, an international treaty port, at a time when the Japanese occupied Amoy just across the harbor. If your a naval or WWII history buff you will find it fascinating, I did!

October 97 - John Paul Jones - Master Mariner The true story of an American sailor. This short biography of the "Father of the American Navy," contains some little known facts about his life.

September 97 - Military Families to Benefit From New Tax Bill. The "Taxpayer Fairness Act of 1997," recently worked out between President Clinton and Congress does away with some of the hardships formerly experienced by military families.

August 97 - Sail 200: Old Ironsides Underway: The oldest commissioned US Navy vessel afloat, U.S.S. Constitution sallied forth under her own power with the same six-sail configuration that she used in her legendary battle with H.M.S. Guerriere.
