Cover Collecting is a fascinating part of the hobby of Philately, (Stamp Collecting). I have been a stamp and cover collector since 1959. I initially began collecting postally used world wide stamps as they were the most easily obtainable (and cheapest) way for a 14 year old to break into the hobby. Over the intervening years, I have collected stamps and covers in various specialty areas including world-wide, U.S. classics and airmails, plate blocks, first day covers, and postal history. My original home state was Rhode Island, which I left in 1963 to begin a 21 year Naval career; initially on surface ships and for the last 10 years on submarines. I am married to a wonderful African American lady from Savannah, Georgia. Since retiring from the Navy, I have worked as a contractor, (electronics) in the shipbuilding industry. Those three short statements should explain my current collecting interests. There are three Philatelic specialty areas that I currently collect; all of which are thematic in nature.
I am also a computer aficionado, (read nut) and I have several web-sites online. I enjoy both stamp collecting and building websites. These stamp pages give me the opportunity to share both of my passions with a wider audience and hopefully to also encourage some of you to take up the wonderful hobby of stamp collecting. These Submarine and Ship web-pages contain a portion of my personal collection in that area. Included are First Day Covers for the 2000 issue of the 100th Submarine Anniversary stamps and the Artic Exploration (Nautilus) issue. There is also a section on the S Class submarines with a link to my S Class Submarine History web-site. There are event covers ranging from World War I to Ohio Class submarines and everything in between. There is an autographed cover section which includes autographs by Admiral Donitz and 12 different German u-boat captains from World War II. There are ship event covers in areas that touch on my past, (640 class subs, ships that I served on or helped to build, and a few others of interest). There are also a few submarine related postcards from the World War I u-boat era. For those of you with an interest in submarine history; I have a web-site online with the history and background of all 51 of the S Class submarines, which contains over 100 actual photos. If you enjoyed these pages, please feel free to visit my other stamp collecting web-sites: Rhode Island Postal History Society (RIPHS) (Stamp Club) African American Heritage and History First Day Covers Ebony Society of Philatelic Events and Reflections (ESPER) (Stamp Club) African American Celebrity Autographs And a non-related web-site:
