USS Tennessee (SSBN-734)

USS Tennessee (SSBN-734) was authorized in 1980 and her keel laid down by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation at Groton, Connecticut on June 9, 1986. The ship was sponsored by Mrs. Landess Kelso and launched on December 13, 1986. Tennessee was commissioned on December 17, 1988 with Captain D. Witzenburg (Blue) and Captain Kenneth D. Barker (Gold) in command.

USS Tennessee was the first of the Trident II Missile Submarines to be commissioned. The Trident II is a longer ranged variant of the original Trident missile.
