I was on two ships as an EM, the USS Los Alamos
(Animal Farm Dunoon Branch) AFDB-7 from Sept
1975-Apr 1977 and then the USS Lawrence-DDG4 (The
Leaking Larry) from May 1977-Dec 1978.
All ships have tales to tell, but not all of them are
overly dramatic like in the sense of shore bombardment.
Lots happen behind the scenes upon which allows the
aforementioned drama to occur in the first place.

Dear Rich T.,
I loved finding your website and will certainly visit it again. There is not a lot of easy information concern-
ing S-boats. They seem to have eluded many submarine publications, except for those which had major influence on history (S-4, S-51 and a little on the S-5). I am a scuba diver and have visited the S-5 on several occasions, so was very excited to see your interior S-4 photos, to get a basic idea of what things may have been like inside the 5.
Thanks again for this awesome site !!

Your web pages are, what can I say, fantastic of course.
I served at NAS Johnston Island in the Pacific during World war II, 1945, 1946. I just wonder if anybody else my age is still around and have computers? My web page is listed as Johnston.html in news & current events, National,-- AOL Hometown. I use http://members.aol.com/Dlarson50/index.html
It does not get the proper exposure in Hometown. I linked your website to it, I hope that is alright with you, and hope maybe I could get you to link to mine. I am very much outclassed but it can be informative anyway.
Thank you

I spent a month on the S-40 boat in Sandiego, after I finished sonar school and it was not so bad as I had come off a 4 stacker Destroyer in the atlantic which was worse than a "sewer pipe". I ended up the war on the USS Bergall SS320 and mad the 5th patrol from Fremantle. We had damage from a mine explosion and ended up in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in NH and ended the war there. Now I am active inin the SUBVETS WWII, Squalus Memorial Chapter, Maine/NewHampshire as the Secretary/Treasurer for the past 20 years.

A great site! I went to nuclear power school in class 64-1.
I was in the surface program and became a reactor operator

for sure which crew he was on. If anyone can give me info
on how to follow this up, I would really appreciate it. I am

It was an "unauthorized" biography of Admiral Rickover. As
I remember, it did not use his name, but everyone knew it
was about him. I haven't been unable to locate it through

My father, (Faris Jones) Lt/Cmdr USN Retired was according to his famous war stories assigned to the USS Farenholt in WWII.
I have researched up and down, North and South, East and West, left and right and I have not been all that successful in locating
anyone who knew of him. His stories claimed he was a student at the Naval Torpedo School at the Washington Naval Yard prior
to assignment on board the Farenholt. Assigned as Engineering Officer and spending many a days on TuTweela, Funa Futi, Wake Island,
Battle of Midway, Guadacanal, and Wallace Naval Air Station, R.O.P.
An amputee, losing his left hand in a mortar shell attack, he was later assigned as Project Officer for LST Construction and Deployment at

My uncle Paul was one of the crew lost on the S-4. I was only 2 yrs. old when this happened, but I remember him and for many years would wake up crying after I had a dream about him. It is such a joy to see and read all the info on the S-4. Even at my age, Paul is thought of many, many days. He was home for leave shortly before the accident, and after my grand father took him to the train my mother said "Paul is not coming back". How did she know. Again, thank you for helping me keep his memory more alive, and I will no doubt be joining him before long in that beautiful, eternal home God has for all who love Him.

I am trying desperately and without luck to find someone that served on the USS GUDGEON, SS211 and survived. The GUDGEON was an incredibly historic sub, that seems to have been all but forgotten, since she was lost in April or May 1944 near the Marianas.
My Uncle William C. Ostlund, Lt. JG., was on her when she disappeared. Have been studying the Gudgeon, and trying to reach a former shipmate, or someone that can tell me about the GUDGEON, or even moree miraculously about my Uncle.
