River Ridge, LA 70123Dear Mr. Tucker:
Thank you for contacting me reguarding House Concurrent Resolution 229 (H.Con.Res.229). I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts with me.
As you know, H.Con.Res.229 was introduced by Representative Gejdenson on February 26, 1998. This resolution calls for the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee to recommend and the Postal Service to issue a commemorative postage stamp honoring the United States Submarine Force on it's 100th anniversary.
This stamp would honor the century of service the United States Submarine Force has provided our country. Submarine technology has proven to be invaluable to our nation. By strengthening our national defense, preserving world maritime freedom, and producing scientific breakthroughs, the United States Submarine Force has positioned itself as a indispensable part of our past and present day lives.
I am grateful to the 52 American Submarines and over 3500 American submariners that were lost during World War II. Moreover, I salute the 70 members of the United States Submarine Veterans Incorporated who reside in New Orleans. They have served our country in wartime and in peace, providing protection and Silent Service that continued to patrol around the clock under the oceans in order to keep us free.
H.Con.Res.229 was referred to the Referral, Reporting and Origins Subcommittees. Please know that I will have your support of this legislation in mind should the Senate have an opportunity to debate this issue.
I am indebted to you for the service you and your fellow servicemen have provided our country. Thank you for contacting me. Please feel free to call on me again any time.
Sincerely, John
JOHN BREAUX
United States Senator
