Hi, I'm Richard, "Rich" to my shipmates and "The Salty" on-line. I am a member of Redfish Base (New Orleans) and Internet Base. I was born in my grandmother's house (Doctor's still made house calls back then) on April 2, 2026 near Montaulk Point, Long Island, New York. My father was in the Navy, serving in the Pacific during this time.

My Naval tour included the following duty stations:
USS Northampton CC 1 USS Franklin D Roosevelt CVA 42
USS James K Polk SSBN 645 USS George Bancroft SSBN 643
MOTU Ten NAVCOMSTA Greece
NAVRADSTA Sugar Grove NAVCAMSLANT Norfolk

Currently, I am working as a field manager and Technical representative for Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. I am responsible for design and engineering of the external communications system on board San Antonio Class Ships (LPD 17).

My previous assignment was in Savannah, Georgia, where I was involved with communications engineering on the Osprey Class Ships (MHC 51). In 1997, we launched the USS Cardinal (MHC 60) and the guest speaker was "Hall of Fame" baseball player, Lou Brock. I've scanned a view of the Autograph for Baseball buff's and sports fans. You can also view the complete Launch Ceremony Program containing the ship's characteristics and Mission.

I come from a long line of seafarers and the love of the sea is in my bones. My father was a retired Navy Chief Quartermaster and later captain of the "Cruise Schooner' Mystic Whaler. My grandfather was a lighthouse keeper, and my great grand uncle, Robert Falcon Scott, was an Antarctic explorer. Although, I love all ships from bassboats to battleships my first love is theTall Ships.

I live in New Orleans Louisiana, near Tulane University with my wife Alberta. However, In August, I will be moving to Mandeville, which is north and across the lake from New Orleans. I have four children and five grandchildren. My hobbies and avocations include fishing, computers, and 12-step recovery work. They used to include Stamp Collecting before the Citizen's Stamp Committee turned down the 100th Anniversary Sub stamp. (I sold my collection in June.)

I have been working the Internet for over three years now, I'm currently a staff editor/writer for the Veteran's area at Suite101.com and have three personal Web-sites of my own. Greg Peterman and I also host a Web-ring for CPO's.
