In 1914 most Americans were very much against becoming involved in the war in Europe and Rhode Islanders were no exception. Although this Cinderella appears to be an official label from the state of Rhode Island, it was actually produced by a private group.

It was not until 1917 and after several incidents involving the loss of American lives at sea to German u-boat attacks of which the sinking of the Lusitania was the final straw, that the United States finally entered the war on the side of the Allies.
