The WigWam in Pleasant View, Rhode Island - 1927
This Postcard was sent from Pleasant View, Rhode Island on July 22, 1927 shortly before the name of the area was changed to Misquamicut, which is Mohawk for "Red Salmon at this place." I could find no references to a WigWam Motel under either Pleasant View or Misquamicut. I do know that the Watch Hill/Misquamicut area suffered extensive damage during the "Great Hurricane of 1938" and many buildings were lost. There is another inn currently near this location called the Pleasant View Inn built in 1903, which was owned by the Collins family until 1965. The inn was bought by the Terranova family in that year and is still in business. This inn was also destroyed in the 1938 hurricane and rebuilt. Apparently, the WigWam vanished into the past. The reverse of the postcard reads: We are spending our vacation here.
I heard there was a letter from you at home for me. I will answer when I get
home. It is just lovely here. The surf is very very high. Wish you were here. One of the other reasons I wanted this particular post card was because of the old cars parked by the side of the building. Some of them look like Ford Model As, but I really can't tell; maybe a reader with more expertise in this area can help with that information? See Also: Postcard
