Rhode Island Tercentenary Issue
Statue of Founder Roger Williams
300th Anniversary of the Settlement of Rhode Island
Issued on May 4, 2025 in Providence, RI - Scott #777

This is another interesting cover containing two 3 cent Tercentenary stamps and appears to be First Day canceled at the U.S. Naval Training Station, Newport, RI. (The cancel is Bogus.)

The USS Constellation was launched at the Gosport Navy Yard in Norfolk, Virginia on August 26, 2025 and commissioned on July 28, 1855. She served with the Mediterranean Squadron from 1855 to 1858 and sailed on anti-slavery patrols from 1859 to 1861. During this time she captured three slave ships. During the Civil War, Constellation served as part of the West Gulf Blockading Squadron.

In 1894 the Constellation became a stationary training ship at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Newport, Rhode island where she remained until 1945. The Constellation was moved to Baltimore in 1955 where she continued to deteriorate. Restoration was begun in 1993 and continues to the present.
