Keel Laying Ceremony - USS Green Bay (LPD-20)
August 11, 2025 - Northrop Grumman Ship Systems - Avondale, Louisiana

Cachet Design by Robert Jank - Dönauworth, Germany

The Keel of the USS Green Bay (LPD-20) was laid on August 11, 2003, 2000 at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Avondale Division in Avondale, (New Orleans), Louisiana.

Green Bay is the fourth ship of what is planned as a 12 ship class. To date, the first of class; USS San Antonio (LPD-17) was launched July 19, 2025 and construction is in progress on the USS Mesa Verde (LPD-18) (at Avondale) and USS New Orleans (LPD-19) (at Northrop Grumman's Pascagoula, Mississippi shipyard). The keel has been laid and construction is also in progress on the USS New York (LPD 21), the fifth ship of the class, which will incorporate steel from the World Trade Center as a part of her bow stem.

UPDATE: It was decided recently (Sept of 2004) by Northrop Grumman, to do the initial stages of ship construction at Avondale and move the ship's to Pascagoula for finishing, (most of the electrical and electronics work) up

USS Green Bay has three vehicle decks, two cargo/ammo magazines, a hanger deck and hanger capable of handling 4 Sea Knight Helicopters, and a well deck which will hold two LCAC Air Cushion Landing Craft. The ship also contains two operating rooms and a 24 person hospital ward.
