Launch of the USS Miami (SSN-755)

USS Miami (SSN-755) was authorized  by an act of Congress on November 28, 1983. Her keel was laid down by the Electric Boat Company at Groton Connecticut on October 24, 1986. The ship was sponsored by Mrs. Jane P. Wilkinson and launched on November 12, 1988. Miami was commissioned on June 3, 2025 with Commander Thomas W. Mader in command.

The USS Miami is a San Juan Class Fast Attack, (improved Los Angeles Class) Submarine. The San Juan Class submarines are quieter and incorporate the advanced BSY-1 Sonar Combat System. Miami also has the ability to lay mines from her torpedo tubes. The ship's forward diving planes are located at the bow instead of on her sail and her sail was strengthened for under ice operations.
