The airmail cover above was originally part of the Franklin D. Roosevelt collection. It was first sold at auction in 1946 by H. R. Harmer, Inc. This is a First Flight Cover from Woonsocket, RI to Washington, DC. It was canceled and flown on May 19, 1938 by the pilot, Captain Paul L. Smith. The Woonsocket Postmaster was Antonio Prince. The cover also bears a Woonsocket stamped label and celebrates National Airmail Week, (May 15 to 21, 1938). The stamp is tied to the cover by a machine cancel and Woonsocket CDS. The stamp is the 6-Cent "Eagle Holding Shield, Olive Branch & Arrows" Airmail issue of May 14, 1938, (Scott #C23 - Dark-Blue & Carmine)
