Cover Flown from Quonset Point, Rhode Island
to Pole Station -Canceled on First Day of Station Operation

The above cover was flown by Commander Jorda of VX-6, One of Admiral Byrd's pilots in September 1956 from Quonset Point Naval Air Station to Little America in Antarctica and canceled on December 16; the station's First Day of Operation
The Cachet is by HHS and reverse of the cover with the "Iceberg and Penguin Cachet" is pictured to the left

My father retired from Quonset Point after twenty years of service in 1956 and I attended 7th and 8th grades at Robert E. Perry Jr. High School located on the Davisville SeaBee Base and just before entering the Navy, I worked at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station base galley, (Mess Hall for you Army brats) for one summer.
