The above cover was flown by Commander Jorda of VX-6, One of Admiral Byrd's pilots in September 1956 from Quonset Point Naval Air Station to Little America in Antarctica and canceled on December 16; the station's First Day of Operation.

My father retired from Quonset Point after twenty years of service in 1956 and I attended 7th and 8th grades at Robert E. Perry Jr. High School located on the Davisville SeaBee Base and just before entering the Navy, I worked at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station base galley, (Mess Hall for you Army brats) for one summer.
