Highway Post Office Covers - 1st and 2nd Trips made on November 13, 1950 from Boston, Massachusetts to Newport, Rhode Island.
     
Highway Post Offices
(HPO) were added as an additional service to the Railway Post Offices in 1940. This service was provided through June of 1974. There were 410 postal routes covered by the HPO. By 1950 there were only 22 HPO routes left in operation.
