Rhode Island Water Fowl & Fishing Stamps
1990 Rhode Island Waterfowl Issue
(2nd RI Duck Stamp)
Canceled at Wakefield, RI on September 24, 1990

These covers were listed as First Day Covers, however as the stamps are issued starting in June; effective on July 1 of the current year and the duck hunting season starts in October, they are not true FDCs. The Covers are produced by Millford for Collins Cachets and are hand Painted.

The proceeds from the sale of the waterfowl stamps are used for waterfowl research, management, and habitat acquisition. The 128 acre Galilee Salt Marsh, a natural habitat of the Black Duck was restored during the 1990s with funds from the sale of these stamps and prints. A future project will install a water control structure at the Buck Hill Marsh. The aim of the new project is to control  water levels and encourage expanded waterfowl habitat on the marsh. Beginning in 1989, the Duck Stamp Program has supported research, restoration and management of  Rhode Island wildlife habitat for the last 15 years.
