The Harrisville Post Office, (Burrillville Township, Providence County) was established on December 20, 1889 under Postmaster De Witt C. Remington, Jr. This post office is currently in operation under Postmaster Eric R. Gauvin appointed on June 12, 2004.

The Rhode Island Directory of 1890-1893 lists De Witt Remington as Postmaster for Harrisville and also lists him as being in the grocery business in partnership with James Sykes under the name of Remington and Sykes. The listing states that the store was located on Main Street - the 2nd right, north of the Universalist Church.

Pliant Corporation, a leading producer of film and flexible packaging products recently closed it's outdated Flexible Food Packaging Plant in Harrisville on October 5, 2004

The Theatre Company of Rhode Island operates the Assembly Theatre on Route 107 in Harrisville. They began their 24th season at this location in 2008.
