The Post Office at Greene, (Coventry Township, Kent County) was established on November 22, 1859. The first Postmaster was Whipple V. Phillips. The Post Office was disestablished on November 3, 1984. The Greene Community Post Office, (Coventry) was established on May 13, 1986 and is currently in operation.

NOTE: A Community Post Office is a contract postal unit that provides services to a small community in which other types of post office facilities have been discontinued. As the above postal service is handled under private contract; information on the Postmaster/person in charge was not available.

Greene is the home of the Northeast Organic Farmers Association, an organization of farmers, consumers and environmentalists that promotes organic farming practices and aids the Rhode island Agriculture Department in establishing certification standards.

Whipple V. Phillips was born in 1833 and in the Census of 1870 is listed as dealing in lumber and coal
