The Coventry Post Office (Coventry Township, Kent County) was established on January 19, 1827 under Postmaster Oliver G. Wilbur. The name was changed to Washington Post Office on February 27, 1883 and back to Coventry again on November 1, 1951. The 2nd Post Office to bear the name of Coventry, (where this cover was canceled) was established on February 17, 1887 under Postmaster Warren M. Green. This Post Office became the Coventry Centre Post Office on November 1, 1951 and became a station of the first (main) Coventry Post Office on September 30, 1964. It was closed for the final time on June 30, 1972.
