The Washington Post Office, (Coventry Township, Kent County) was first established as the Coventry Post Office on January 19, 1827 under Postmaster Oliver G. Wilbur. The name of the Post Office was changed to Washington on February 27, 1883 under Postmaster Walter A. Kilton. The name was changed back to Coventry on November 1, 1951.
