Dead Post Office - Foster Centre 1848-1893

The Foster Centre Post Office (Foster Township, Providence County) was established on March 6, 1848 under Postmaster Robert Beattie. On October 14, 1893 the name was changed to Foster Center. The Foster Center Post Office was disestablished on December 14, 1905 and reestablished again on September 25, 1906. On July 1, 1961 the Foster Center Post office was disestablished for the last time and became the (2nd) Foster Post Office when the first Foster Post office was disestablished. The 2nd Foster Post Office is currently in operation.

The cover above was sent sometime in between 1883 and 1887, as the 2 cent red-brown Washington stamp, (Scott #210) was issued on October 1, 1883 and was in use until 1887 when the 2 cent green Washington was issued.
