Postal Stationary - Stamped Envelopes
Rate Comparison Chart of New York Covers traveling a distance of 150 to 400 miles
during the years 1825 to 1845. The correct rate was 183/4 cents
Two of the 1835 covers and one 1837 cover were marked incorrectly at 181/2 cents,
however earlier covers from 1826 and 1828 were marked correctly.
(I believe the Postal employee just made a lazy marking and that the correct rates were charged)

I included this 1824 Newport Cancel at 181/2 x 3 rate for comparison. This cover was sent at the correct rate. of 571/2 or 181/2 x 3 plus 2 cents Ship Fee. This cover was sent before the rate changed to 183/4 cents in 1825

April 12, 1826 New York Cover sent at the correct rate of 183/4 cents.
April 17, 1828 New York Cover sent at the correct rate of 183/4 cents.
January 16, 1835 New York Cover marked incorrectly with 181/2 cent rate.
May 7, 1835 New York Cover marked incorrectly with 181/2 cent rate.
August 31, 1836 New York Cover marked incorrectly with 181/2 cent rate.
New York Cover Sent March 23, 1837 at the Correct Rate of 183/4 Cents. Steamboat rate was a 2 cents fee paid to vessels master from the regular rate charge and not added on.  (Different penmanship than the other 1837 cover -Most Likely a different Station.)
