The Peace Dale Post Office, (South Kingstown Township, Washington County) was established on December 15, 1840 under Postmaster Erasmus D. Campbell. The Post office was disestablished on August 14, 1928 and became a station of Wakefield, RI on August 15, 1928. This station is currently open.

Peace Dale is the home of The Museum of Primitive Art and Culture. The museum was founded in 1892 by Rowland Hazard, who also established and built Carolina Mills on the Pawcatuck River in 1841. (See: Roland Hazard Letter - 1848.) Today, the museum houses over 15,000 archaeological  and primitive art objects from around the world. Peace Dale was also home to the first Woolen Worsted Mill in the country.
