The first Narragansett Post Office was established on February 29, 1848 under Postmaster Samuel Brown. It was disestablished on November 30, 1892. The Narragansett Pier Post Office was established on September 4, 1867 under Postmaster William C. Caswell. This Post Office became the 2nd Narragansett Post Office on January 1, 1925 under Postmaster Walter T. Caswell and in 1930 it became a branch of the Wakefield Post Office. The Post Office is located at 15 Memorial Square.

Around the turn of the century Narragansett (or Narragansett Pier) was known as one of the top summer vacation spots rivaling Newport with it's many beachfront Inns and prime beaches. It is still one of the prime beach spots for Rhode Island residents with 3 prime beaches located along its coast on Narragansett Bay.
