September 27, 1837 New York cancel - 183/4 Rate Marking

The Postal Act of March 3, 1825, (effective May 1, 1825) increased the zone rate for 150 to 400 miles to 183/4 cents. Previously, (Act of April 9, 1816) the rate was set at 181/2 cents.

The Letter contains Three Invoices on one multi-invoice form. This multi-invoice is a partial; it appears that several invoices have been torn from the bottom of the sheet.  The first two invoices on the sheet are for Captain Goodmanson on board Panthea sailing for New Orleans and the third invoice is for Captain West on the Edwina. I assume that Captain West will pick up the merchandise for the third invoice from Captain Goodmanson at New Orleans for delivery in Mobile.

Each invoice is to a different individual. In this Case, two invoices are for goods being delivered at New Orleans and one invoice is for goods being delivered at Mobile. The Mobile invoice is to  D. W. R. Goodman and indicates a shipment of 1 bale of goods at 8 cents per cut foot.
