March 1835 Boston CDS with 10 Cent Rate Marking

The Postal Act of April 9, 1816, (effective May 1, 1816) set the zone rate for mail traveling between 30 to 80 miles to 10 cents. The post road distance between Boston, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island was approximately 50 miles.

Joseph Peace Hazard was born in Burlington, New Jersey in 1807.  He died on January 18, 1892 in Peace Dale, Rhode Island.
